The new KLIA Terminal 2 is designed to be the most green airport terminal in Asia. Extensive measures on energy efficiency, water efficiency and waste management during construction and use are being implemented for the terminal to reduce the land use resources of traveling by more than 50%.

Travelers will meet an airport where natural daylight and displacement ventilation systems improves the comfort and amenity, and improves sales from the shops and restaurants.

• Overall thermal optimization of the airport terminal using computer simulation (IES Computer Suite).


• Design and optimization of daylight design using advanced computer simulation (Radiance).


• Optimisation of the lighting system with energy efficient lighting and lighting control.


• Optimisation of the cooling system in the terminal to provide cooling only in the volumes where people are present , thereby reducing cooling load.


• Overall optimization of all pumps and fans for dynamic control and low energy consumption Design and optimization of the rainwater collection and storage system.

Preparation of an on-line environmental information and display system that will inform the users of the terminal on the environmental design of the terminal and actual and historic data on the use of energy and water.

Design optimization of the environmental performance of the terminal building so that the environmental targets of LEED Gold and GBI Silver can be achieved for KLIA Terminal 2 as a total, including facilities around the terminal building.
