UIAM Teaching Hospital is situated in Kuantan on the Malaysian East Coast and is designed to meet the JKR Energy Efficiency requirements for hospitals which is evident in both the passive and active measures taken to meet the target Building Energy Index (BEI) of < 140 kWh/m2/year.
The design approach was to use Integrated Design in collaboration with all the design consultants to optimise both the building envelope - glazing, exterior walls, roofs and skylights - and the ACMV system to minimize both the cooling load and the energy used for cooling.
